The dose of Euthyrox is determined based upon the extent of hypothryoidism (how low your thyroid hormones are), your weight and your age. The doctor starts therapy with a certain dose, monitors your blood thyroid hormone levels after about 2-3 months, checks for treatment response both clinically (makes sure your thyroid gland in not enlarged and that you do not have persistent symptoms of hypothyroidism) and that thyroid hormone levels are within normal range, and adjusts the dose accordingly.
For cases of mild Hypothyroidism in patients who are younger than 50 years of age and have no cardiovascular disease, the dosage regimen is usually as follows: 1.7 mcg/kg or 100-125 mcg once per Day; not to exceed 300 mcg/day. The dose may be adjusted dose by 12.5-25 mcg every 4-6 weeks until patient becomes euthyroid (has normal thyroid hormone levels) and serum TSH concentration normalized.
In cases of severe Hypothyroidism, the initial is higher 12.5-25 mcg once per Day) and can be adjusted dose by 25 mcg/day every 2-4 Week as needed. In cases of subclinical Hypothyroidism (elevated TSH with a normal free T4), the starting dose is usually 1 mcg/kg once per Day.
