When is it safe for the New Born to travel long distance (i.e: come back from Canada or USA to Lebanon)? Is 1 or 2 weeks enough or more? Will the change in pressure irritate his ears?
Feb 3, 2014

Dr. Judy Matta Pediatrics
If your newborn has no medical concerns, you can travel with your baby from day 1 but there is always the risk of exposing the newborn to possible infections on a crowded airplane. His immune systems is still immature and he could get sick. However, the risk of germ exposure is always present and childhood immunizations do not protect against the germs that are likely to be on the plane.
Also, changing cabin pressure during a flight causes temporary changes in middle ear pressure, which can cause ear pain. To help equalize the pressure in your baby's ears, encourage your baby to suck on a bottle or pacifier during takeoff and landing.
