What tests should be done in the first pregnancy trimester, i'm in the begining of 7 weeks pregnant
Jul 1, 2015

Dr. Zakia Dimassi Pediatrics
The basic tests that need to be performed during the 1st trimester of pregnancy in a regular case (no known complications during previous pregnancies) include:
1- Complete Blood Count (CBC) with platelets
2 - Blood type, Rhesus and antibody screen
3- Urine analysis to check for any bacteria (asymptomatic bacteruria); if positive, a urine culture should be ordered
4- Rubella antibodies (IgG and IgM)
5- Hepatitis B surface Antigen (HBsAg)
6- Syphilis screen
7- Gonorrhea and Chlamydia screen
8- HIV antibody IF the doctor deems appropriate
9- Pap smear IF the doctor deems appropriate
10- Ultrasound: usually, the 1st trimester ultrasound is performed between 11 and 13 weeks of gestation along with screening of the maternal serum
