Dr. Zakia Dimassi Pediatrics
LDH is lactate dehydrogenase, and is found extensively in many tissues of the body, including the heart, kidneys, brain, lungs, liver, and blood cells. Tissue breakdown releases LDH, and therefore LDH can be measured as an indicator of tissue breakdown. SGOT and SGPT are the two main liver enzymes.
In the context of concomitantly elevated SGOT, SGPT and LDH, we think of liver cells damage, due to inflammation which could be the result of certain drugs; medications that can increase LDH measurements include anesthetics, aspirin, clofibrate, fluorides, mithramycin, narcotics, and procainamide. If you do not take any of these drugs regularly, then hepatitis due to a viral infection or other should be ruled out.
Kindly follow up with your treating physician for further investigations.
