Dr. Zakia Dimassi Pediatrics
Did she reach a state where she could sleep well and almost continuously throughout the night? And now she's not sleeping at night again? Or has this been the case ever since she was born? I am asking because some infants take longer time before a steady sleep schedule is established, and this has to do with the brain maturation - namely the sleep center in the brain. You can help by:
- trying to keep her active during the day (keep the lights on, allow moderate exposure to sunlight when possible which is important in regulating the circadian rhythm, play with her),
- avoiding late afternoon naps,
- establishing a bedtime ritual: a warm bath, a lullaby, reading a story (though she's too young to understand the words but this is very soothing)
-keeping the lights dim, the room warm (not too warm though), and calm and quiet where she sleeps

I need to add that if anyone smokes at home, this must be stopped as it is unhealthy for the baby and her inability to sleep may be attributed to this.
