I'm 36 weeks pregnant, the diameter of my baby's head is reaching 10 cm and his weight is 3.3 kg. My pelvis is not narrow at all. I want a natural delivery, but I'm being pushed for c-section. Why?

Dr. Zakia Dimassi Pediatrics
The most common indications for primary cesarean delivery include, in order of frequency:
- labor dystocia (Dystocia refers to prolonged or slowly progressing labor. It is common in nulliparous women, and is responsible for more than 50 percent of primary cesarean deliveries)
- abnormal or indeterminate fetal heart rate tracing,
- fetal malpresentation (breech or transverse lie instead of vertex presentation, whereby the head is directed toward the birth canal),
- multiple gestation (obviously not in your case), and
- suspected fetal macrosomia (variably defined as fetal weight exceeding 4000 g, 4500 g, or the 90th percentile)
- a previous delivery by c-section especially if less then 2 years ago (the uterus has not had enough time to heal well and may rupture if normal vaginal delivery is attempted)
Discuss the issue with your obstetrician as only he/she can tell you the criteria upon which he/she has made the decision to resort to cesarian section instead of normal vaginal delivery.
