How to treat(handle) the cancer of prostate PSA = 29???
Jul 23, 2013

Dr. Ghassan Nawfal Surgery
You should consult a Urologist who will ask for an ultrasound of the prostate and do some blood tests. The treatment is usually surgical and the type of surgery depends on several factors such as the size of the gland.

This is a very vast question.
The first step when having a PSA of 29 ng/ml, and after insuring a normal urine test, is to do a prostate biopsy.
If the biopsy was done and a cancer was diagnosed, the treatment depends on the digital rectal exam (DRE), the pathology result and the imaging studies that are mandatory when having a PSA of 29.
The pathology result will define the Gleason score.
DRE and imaging tests will show the extension of the disease.
Depending on all those tests, you might have a large range of options.
