Does any kind of food consumed by the breastfeeding mother cause colic to the baby? If yes, can you please mention the foods to avoid?
May 6, 2015

Dr. Zakia Dimassi Pediatrics
Foods that contain complex carbohydrates and fibers classically cause gas; the following items are common culprits:
Beans
Broccoli
Brussels sprouts
Cabbage
Carbonated drinks
Cauliflower
Chewing gum
Fruits, such as apples, peaches and pears
Hard candy
Lettuce
Milk and milk products
Onions
Sugar alcohols found in sugar-free foods (sorbitol, mannitol and xylitol)
Whole-grain foods
Mind you, this does not necessarily mean that you should avoid ALL these foods, especially that you need to consume milk and dairy products to sustain your breast milk availability, and some of these food items may not actually cause you to have excess gas. So it's a matter of trial and error.
